Even the merry season can take its toll on your refrigerator, especially if you intend to do a lot of cooking and entertaining in the coming months. Prepare for the holiday’s big kitchen to do’s by cleaning and organizing your ref.

To clean the freezer: unplug refrigerator. Remove food and keep in coolers for the meantime. Remove ice from freezer when it loosens. Wash the interior with warm water solution mixed with baking soda. Wipe dry.

To clean the refrigerator compartment: Remove all food and removal pieces such as shelves, compartments, and glass parts. Wipe with warm water and baking soda solution (about 2 tablespoons baking soda per quart of warm water), making sure stains and odors are removed. Clean the removal parts in same cleaning solution. Wipe dry. Clean door gasket with detergent solution. Remove the drip pan underneath the ref and throw out the water. Clean with water solution and wipe dry. Use soft cleaning foam and avoid abrasives like scouring pads that will only scratch plastic and glass parts.

To clean the exterior: Vacuum the back of the ref to get rid of dust. Remove dust on the exterior by using a damp cloth. Using a multi-purpose wax could also help protect the paint on the appliance.
